There are may reasons I chose to write about childhood illnesses. I watched a TV programme this evening which featured some colleagues who have a very seriously ill daughter. They spend their every waking moment caring for their daughter and raising money to send her to America for treatment. As well as both holding down full-time jobs. (Donate some money here, please – http://isabellasfund.co.uk)
Another reason is that MiniM is ill. She has a chest infection, and has been up to my bedroom a couple of times already tonight. The first time she came up because she had a nightmare. She doesn’t often have nightmares, usually only when she has a temperature. So when she has nightmares, I know she’s not well. Continue reading
This evening, MiniM had a friend round after school.
She had been pestering me for a while, and because I was going to be at home today, I said yes.
MiniM and her friend helped prepare dinner and when we sat down to eat we started to tell jokes. Continue reading
Sometimes, when I am on holiday, I tell people I work for the Council – it stops all those embarrassing questions and conversations:-
“I got stopped for speeding last week. How do I get off the ticket”
“Do you get Commission for all the tickets you dish out?”
But today, I will admit, I am a Police Officer. And I work shifts. I don’t have a nice comfortable 9-5 office job. Continue reading
I thought I would write this post about Children and eating, and any fads they may have.
By ‘Fads’, I am referring to not liking a particular food one week, but loving it the next.
I should make mention of allergies as well, although I am pleased to say that MiniM is allergic to nothing. Well, not that we know of.
When MiniM was born, MrsM and I talked about, amongst other things, discipline and food.
We had seen too many children of relatives and friends, who were ‘fussy eaters’, and these ‘fussy eaters’ made us quite cross. Continue reading
I thought I should update the story.
Regular readers will remember that MiniM was going for a sleepover at her friend’s house.
I talked yesterday about what she had packed to take with her.
To read that post go here
MiniM is going to a sleepover tonight. I know this today, because every 20 minutes or so today, she asks “Is it 3 o’clock yet?”
She is being collected at 3pm.
I also know she’s going for a sleepover tonight, because when I came down this morning, she was dressed, ready to go.
I thought it would be prudent to have a look to see what she is taking with her.
Listening to the radio this morning, I heard an article about Christmas presents, children and how the two don’t always go well together.
Like most parents, we are looking at Christmas with a mixture of excitement and dread.
The excitement of past Christmas memories, and wanting the ‘perfect’ Christmas experience for our children. And dread – well, because some bugger has to pay for this dream. Continue reading
Normally, my posts have some sort of morale attached to them, you know the sort of thing. I write a story about something cute MiniM has said and link it to some facet of modern life.
Well, I’m going to be a bit different this time. I am going to make observations. You make the links if you like.
Today was the first day that we had together after MrsM had left on her deployment. See here for why.
Because it was close to Haloween (or spooky holidays, or whatever you call it), we decided to carve some pumpkins. Continue reading
It’s been a funny old day. That’s what Arkwright used to say in Open All Hours.
But this post has nothing to do with corner shops in East Lancashire. This post is about the end of an era and the start of another one.
MrsM is off on her travels again. She is going to Afghanistan again. Her deployment is for 12 months. Thankfully, she goes out there for 6 weeks and then comes home for 2 weeks. Continue reading
